ON THE DIRECTOR: MURILO SALLES

Murilo Salles made his directorial debut in 1984 with Happier Than Ever (Nunca Fomos Tão Felizes), awarded Best Film at the Brasilia, Gramado, and Locarno Film Festivals, and in the Official Competition of a Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival. Also directed the acclaimed Two Edged Knife (Faca de Dois Gumes), awarded Best Director at Gramado; Two Billion Hearts (Todos os Corações do Mundo), the official documentary of the 1994 World Cup; How Angels Are Born (Como Nascem os Anjos), again the top winner at the Brasilia, Gramado, Toulouse, and Huelva Film Festivals; Whatever God Wants (Seja o Que Deus Quiser), Best Film at the 2002 Moscow and Rio de Janeiro International Film Festivals; the TV series It’s You, Brazil (És Tu, Brasil), and Camila JAM (Nome Próprio), his latest, awarded Best Film, Best Actress and Best Art Direction at the 2008 Gramado Film Festival. Murilo also has an extensive career as a cinematographer, writer and producer.
